This is my laptop desktop. I'm using Ubuntu Linux 10.04 Lucid Lynx with GLX-Dock [link]
The desktop speedometer widgets are also part of the GLX-Dock, only they function as standalone when needed. I felt that the speedometers went really well with the wallpaper.
The small gauge on the left measures my battery life.
The middle gauge measures the WiFi strength of the connected router.
The right-side gauges measure the stress load on the processors and memory.
